Welcome to September! September is a great month, isn’t it? September is when August’s high temperatures dissipate, and we start looking ahead to cooler and crisper fall weather. September starts with long warm nights and ends with changing fall colors. Gardens are going wild with peppers, tomatoes, and hard squash. The farmers markets are full of yummy jams and hot chocolate mixes, and of course, it’s football season! The best part is, you can enjoy all of it without the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. All that is still a month or so away at least, so life is good. It’s so good, in fact, that we decided to share a list of…

Our favorite things about September!

Kids are back in school. Don’t get us wrong. We love our kids and grandkids! But once September rolls around, things get a bit quieter out there. If you want to go to the park or to the zoo or paddle boarding, it won’t be quite so crowded.

Fall colors. By mid-September the leaves have started to turn, but they haven’t started to fall. No raking yet! Enjoy them while they’re still on the trees.

Bye, humidity! There are plenty of things to dislike about August, and if you ask us, humidity is at the top of that list. With September come cool mornings and evenings that are as crisp and dry as a fall apple.

Football season starts. It’s time for both NFL and college football. The afternoons are still warm enough that you can grill as you stream the game on your tablet. Sometimes, technology is great.

Oktoberfest beers. They’re so good with a pretzel, and they’re best enjoyed out-of-doors on a lovely September afternoon.

Seasonal coffees. Pumpkin spice is just the beginning. Soon there’ll be peppermint and gingerbread.

Fireflies in the yard at night! Is there anything more comforting than the sight of fireflies in the yard? The tiny blinking lights bring back memories of childhood, especially when we watch our grandkids squeal and chase them!

Lower energy bills. That’s something to celebrate after running the air conditioning all summer.

Early Halloween candy! You can get a bag of assorted stuff so you can “be prepared” and secretly eat all the mini Baby Ruth bars out of it.

Warm blankets on the couch. It’s time to be cozy once again.

Apple picking. Apples are in season, so get them now and make some pies or apple crumble! You can also make DIY apple butter in your crock pot. It’s so easy! You don’t even have to peel or core your apples!
