Autumn in Belton, MOWhile it can be easy to forget in the midst of a snowstorm or on a blistering hot summer day, the Greater Kansas City Area enjoys the best of all four seasons, and at no time is that more apparent than when autumn is in full swing. If you’re a resident of the Lazy Acres adult community in Belton, or of the KC Metro Area, there’s no time like the present to get outside and enjoy the autumn colors before the leaves are all gone and winter weather has us all stuck inside baking cookies and breads and watching holiday specials on TV—not that there’s anything wrong with that!

While different trees change color at different times of the year, by now most of the trees have started to turn, and a walk just about anywhere in the area will show you a palette of reds, oranges, and yellows that can’t be beat. To really experience the grandeur of autumn, get out and drive along some back roads or hike on one of the many nature trails that surround the Belton area.

There are a wide range of parks around Belton, offering a variety of outdoor activities for all interests and activity levels, and almost all of them offer walking trails that will give you a front row seat to the changing autumn colors. Belton’s newest park at Cleveland Lake covers more than 50 acres, including a 1.2 mile walking trail and a lake for boating. Other trails and recreational opportunities can be found at Wallace Park, Somerset Park, Smoot Peace Park, Memorial Park, Markey Park, Country View Park, and Cimarron Trails Park.

For those who’re willing the venture a little further afield, the Greater Kansas City Area is home to a variety of trails, parks, and other opportunities to experience the outdoors, including walking trails along the Kansas and Missouri Rivers, and hiking trails at places like Landahl Park, Shawnee Mission Park, Swope Park, the Blue River Parkway, Longview Lake, and many more!
