Flowers in GardenYou’ve all heard the phrase “April showers bring May flowers,” but this year in Belton it seems like it may be May showers bringing June flowers… and beyond. The month of May has been unusually rainy and cool in Missouri this year, and that means it’s prime time to get a jump-start on your summer gardening. So if you were thinking of starting up a flower garden, or just putting in some potted plants, this is the perfect time. At the Lazy Acres adult community in Belton, our residents love to dig in the dirt and plant flowers and potted plants to beautify and personalize their homes, and we love the results! Take a walk through our community, and you’ll see the fruits of their labor in every flower pot and garden plot.

Luckily for us, Belton also offers a lot of options for summer gardening supplies. The Belton Home Depot is obviously a big resource for our gardeners, but there are plenty of local garden resources available nearby as well. Suburban Lawn & Garden, with three locations in the Kansas City Area, offers not just lawn and garden supplies, but also access to expertise, including a variety of product guides and information on what to plant for specific needs or conditions, available either at the store or online. Rosehill Gardens in Kansas City, MO is more than just a garden center; it’s an experience. Check out their courtyard full of plants, fountains, and statuary! And Ben’s Lawn and Garden in nearby Blue Springs, MO is a family owned and operated business, offering all the amenities of a full-service garden center with the feel of a corner store.

One of the best things about visiting any of our local garden centers is that they’re not just a store, they’re also a kind of park, filled with beautiful flowers and trees, statuary, fountains, and other decorations. Browsing through them feels less like shopping than stumbling upon some fantastic secret garden in the middle of the city. Speaking of gardens in the middle of the city, even if you’re not a gardener yourself, you can always enjoy a bit of nature by taking a walk through any of the many parks in and around Belton, or by taking a short drive to Powell Gardens in Kingsville, MO, or just taking a stroll through your own neighborhood at the Lazy Acres adult community in Belton, where the efforts of your neighbors may just inspire you to run down to the local garden center, grab a spade and a few annuals, and do some gardening of your own this summer!

While the Lazy Acres adult community in Belton has fully-maintained grounds, we encourage our residents to display their individuality in their gardening, landscaping, and decorating efforts. Whether you’ve got a green thumb or not so much, you can find something in the Belton area to help bring beauty and character to your home landscaping this summer.
