Well, maybe there aren’t quite a thousand, but it sure seems like there’s a never-ending amount of things to do and see around our area, especially as warmer weather arrives with the spring and summer months. For the lucky residents of the Lazy Acres adult community in Belton, all the events, options, and amenities of the Kansas City metro area are just a short drive away. Whether you like shopping, dining, jazz, barbecue, beer, baseball, performing arts, museums, or just about anything else you can imagine, there’s a world-class example of it just outside your front door!
At the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts, you can catch the Hollywood classic Singing in the Rain with live orchestral accompaniment, while the Starlight Theater (only a few short minutes from Belton) features a Broadway season including Camelot, Annie, and Mary Poppins, among others. And if Broadway’s not your thing, the Starlight also offers an extensive slate of concerts under the stars, including Beck and Willie Nelson, the Steve Miller Band, Peter Frampton and Cheap Trick, Def Leppard, Boston, and more!
For art lovers, the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art has free admission and special events all year round, including a free Mother’s Day celebration on Sunday, May 10th. Or you could always check out First Fridays in the Crossroads Arts District on (you guessed it) the first Friday of every month, where you can see gallery shows by local and international artists, as well as witness live performances and choose from lots of dining options in the heart of downtown Kansas City. History buffs may prefer the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial, which features an extensive array of special events throughout the year, including a family-friendly Hands-On History event every Saturday in April, where kids of all ages are invited to get a hands-on look at artifacts in the museum’s main gallery. Or you could check out the Arabia Steamboat Museum, one of Kansas City’s hidden treasures, located just off River Market.
Connoisseurs of food and drink are right at home in Belton, as well, with the area offering a huge range of dining experiences, including an array of fine dining options, world-famous Kansas City barbecue, locally-roasted coffee, and craft beer brewers. A tour of the Boulevard Brewing Company has quickly become one of the “must see” experiences of Kansas City.
And of course, no description of things to do in and around the Belton area this summer would be complete without talking about KC Royals baseball, with home games at Kauffman Stadium against the Twins (April 20-22), the NY Yankees (May 15-17), and the Cardinals (May 22-24)!
So, whether you’re in the mood for shopping on the Country Club Plaza, a stroll through the park at Powell Gardens, a night on the town at the Power & Light District, or anything else that your heart desires, you’ll be well situated to enjoy everything that the Kansas City metro area has to offer without having to venture far from the comfort of your own home at Lazy Acres adult community in Belton!
